Baby Girl blanket and spit-up cloth from 2 Charm Packs
I absolutely love charm packs! They can make your life so much easier, AND you get so many more color options than you would if you bought yardage. They are 5" x 5" and generally come in packages of 42 (some repeating colors).
I used 2 charm packs of the same design and cut all the pieces in half diagonally. My favorite design zone is my living room floor, so the quilt picture is the design, but it's still in pre-production stage. The spit-up cloth on the other hand, is COMPLETE!
I used a bunch of triangles left over from the blanket, created a new design, but it coordinates, so the two together could make a great gift!! In fact, they are going to a certain little girl due in April. I thought this fabric would be great for a Spring baby gift.
The rag is about 20" x 20" and I used cotton triangles for the front, and terry cloth for the back. I sewed them right sides together (terry cloth is the same on both sides) and left a 4" opening to turn the project through. Then I topstitched around the whole edge. Also, I "quilted" the two layers together by stitching a flower in the white diamond areas. Something simple and easy, just enough to attach the layers together so washing won't destroy the shape. Turned out great. Should make for a happy, and clean, mom ;)
