Birthday Card
This is the birthday card I made for my nephew-to-be this past August. Obviously, it was for his 2nd b-day. Since he can run around and talk more, he has definately been taking advantage of it! Wild child :) So we thought the theme fit perfect, and we included a gift of "the Lion King".
So easy to make, but time consuming
For the outside:
- Ripped one edge of a cardstock sheet, squared it up on the card to get nice edges. Use a paper cutter, not scissors
- Stamped animals on white paper using colored ink. Then I took copic markers and added a few highlighting colors to add dimension (ie. the croc's scales, lion's mane, giraffe's spots, and the elephant's wrinkles and smile). Cut them out with an x-acto knife. I put dimensional dots behind the elephant to make him stick out as the focal point... and it helps the trunk lay flat, even with the baker's twine tied around it.
- Used the Martha Stewart paper scoring board to make the main part of the 'balloon'. I hot glue the centers of all of those that I make, just to make sure they stay REALLY secure. It gets hidden later because I always cover up the center. So you can be messy!
- Baker's twine for the 'balloon' string
- Ink the tree stamp with the lighter green, then take a darker green ink pad and swipe the stamp around the edges... then stamp directly on the card. Repeat a second time
For the inside:
- I had a rubber stamp for 'Happy Birthday' and I freehand wrote 'WILD' in bubble letters using a fine point sharpie. I colored in the letters with copic markers and created animal print :)
- And of course, I included my puppy dog's signature
